Our skin can affect our confidence positively or negatively, so what do we do if our confidence is shattered because of the latter? Here are a handful of ways to feel more confident in your own skin by taking care of it!

“Be confident” is one of the easiest things to say and the hardest things to do. We all have insecurities and doubts, especially when it comes to our skin. Other than dressing as a Halloween ghost 24/7, there aren’t too many ways to hide our face, so it’s time to boost skin confidence. Love the skin you’re in by treating it right and indulging in a dash of self-care.

4 steps to feeling confident in your skin

  • Get to know your skin. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to skincare. All skin is unique; it might be oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination of the above, and finding the perfect match might take a little trial and error. To find your skin type, cleanse and dry your face then leave it be for 30 minutes. Then have close look - oily skin tends to have large pores and shine, while dry skin is dull with small pores and combination is, well, a combo of the two. That’s a good starting point, but if you’re still not sure or have concerns, speak to the experts - a beauty therapist or dermatologist might be able to help.

  • Find your routine. Once you’ve identified your skin type, create a daily routine that’s not only good for your skin but manageable. Find what works for you - a 10-step regime may not be practical with toddlers to chase, or in a shared bathroom. Keep in mind that it doesn’t need to break the bank - why not try this simple DIY moisturiser.

  • Be kind. Would you tell a friend that people are staring at their spot? Would you point out their acne, or stare at it on every shiny surface? No! If you wouldn’t say it to a loved one, don’t say it to yourself. Easy said than done, but turning those negative thoughts into positives is one small step towards owning your skin and feeling confident.

  • Cleanse your feed. What we surround ourselves with has a huge impact on both emotional and mental health, and social media is one of the biggest culprits. By following a person or account, you let them peek their head into your day and allow them to influence your mood. Does scrolling through Instagram leave you with the influencer blues? Then it might be time to Marie Kondo your feed. If an account sparks anything other than joy, ditch it! Fill your phone with positive vibes and feel-good photos, and you might just find an inner glow to match that confident outer glow.
