Coconut oil is a multipurpose wonder product. There are endless uses for this natural oil in both the kitchen and bathroom, and it's a perfect carrier for essential oils such as mānuka, lavender and eucalyptus.

The addition of mānuka oil to this basic face homemade moisturiser recipe adds an antibacterial boost, which helps to prevent and protect against acne and breakouts. While most aren't kitchen staples, the ingredients are available from most health stores or online. Add 2 tablespoons of shea or cocoa butter to give this lush face homemade moisturiser an additional richness. However, the combination of natural butter and beeswax may make this cream too thick for oily skin types.

Ingredients For Your Homemade Moisturiser

  • 1/2 cup of liquid oil - almond oil, jojoba oil or apricot oil all work well.

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup beeswax

  • Mānuka oil (a general guide for essential oils is 1% ratio, so 1 drop per teaspoon of oil. 1 cup = 40 drops, but mānuka oil is strong, so it may be best to be conservative).

How to Make Your Homemade Moisturiser

  1. Combine liquid oil, coconut oil, and beeswax in a double boiler or glass bowl on a pot of boiling water. Add the shea or cocoa butter if using.

  2. Stir oils occasionally until completely melted and combined.

  3. Once melted, add mānuka oil. Stir and pour into a glass jar keep at room temperature for up to six months. This moisturiser is also suitable as a body moisturiser, and the combination of beeswax and mānuka oil could provide some relief for eczema.

ManukaRX East Cape Mānuka Skin Oil is harvested and distilled on the remote East Cape of New Zealand. The high triketone levels found in the oil supercharges the natural antibacterial properties, making it a useful tool in the prevention and healing of acne, cuts and scrapes, sores and bites. Available in some health stores and online.
